#9 – Tall bookends

Friday Fun

Many of my IT Manager Institute classes have been memorable, , , all have been special. The class dinners are especially fun and an opportunity to get to know our IT manager participants better. My wife, Dorine, was able to attend several of the dinners, even two outside the US (Aruba and Slovenia). Dorine was always a hit at a class dinner because she was so comfortable with everyone and a joy for participants to get to know. Plus, she made the dinner more special for me!

OK, to the point of this post, , ,

In my first Slovenia class, we had 18 students, , , it was a great class. Two of the students were 7-feet tall. Giants!

At the class dinner, our “paparazzi” decided to get a unique photo, , , a “bookends” photo of sorts:

I have dozens of unique photos from my Institute classes, , , one-of-a-kind captions that will be remembered forever, , , at least by me. This “bookends” photo just happened to give me a thought for this post.

kathy-shaqCapture what’s going on around you with a photo, , , will be well worth it one day. For example, my sister-in-law works in the athletic department of a large high school. She is always sending me a photo taken with a well known college football coach or celebrity. This one with 7-foot-1-inch Shaquille O’Neal goes well with the theme of this post, , , thanks Kathy.

Where is my car?

Friday FUN #5

Friday Fun

Looks like Eddie will be discharged from the hospital today after a 5-day stay. He is doing well and we are both looking forward to getting home, , , and back into our “normal” mode. Both of us have been in this little hospital room since 5:00 am Sunday morning. Because Eddie has no short term memory due to the auto accident he suffered in 1993, I or someone is with him 24×7, , , because of the snow storm it has been just me this time.

As I start thinking about the transfer, my immediate thought is, “Where is my car?”.

I know it is right where I parked in front of the ER when I arrived here. I’m sure it is still covered with snow and ice, but no worries, , , we are going home today!

So, how does this tie into a Friday FUN post?

Simple, I “lost my car” in the parking lot of an IT Support organization based in Philadelphia once. Watch the short video and laugh it up at my expense.

RAISED FLOOR

One of the funniest things I experienced in my IT career was what I call the “RAISED FLOOR”. Watch a short 4-minute video that shows you why I was “floored” when I saw what this hospital did.

Y2K Bugs

It was 1999 and every IT organization in the world was getting ready for what might happen when the clock turned over from 1999 to 2000. Lots of programming work to insure there were no date issues. Then, when 2000 happened, nothing actually happened, , , no elevators stopped working, , , no power grids shut down, , , nothing we heard of that actually happened when the year 2000 rolled in.

To have some fun prior to the eventful night, a few of us dressed up as Y2K bugs in a company contest. People in the restaurant we went to for lunch thought we were a bit strange, , , they were probably right, , , but we won the contest and that was a big deal.
